BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday refused to stay an order derecognising a school in Shimoga which had failed to celebrate Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), Shimoga and the Block Development Officer (BEO) had taken note of the “failure” of Excel School of Shimoga in celebrating Independence Day early on August 15 and issued a notice of derecognition.

The school had petitioned the High Court, challenging its derecognition.

The school said that there was some delay in holding the function in the morning because the departure of its secretary and headmistress to Shimoga was delayed at Bangalore. Even as the school readied to hold the function, a mob threatened the authorities and prevented the school staff from hoisting the national flag.
