Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Monday asked the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a compact disc (CD) purportedly showing the former Minister Hartala Halappa “molesting” a homemaker in Shimoga in November last.

Mr. Halappa had resigned from his post after a homemaker alleged that he had raped her. She and her husband had filed a complaint with the Shimoga police. The case was subsequently transferred to the CID.

The CID had arrested Mr. Halappa. He was brought from Shimoga to Bangalore last week. Mr. Halappa had filed a criminal petition before the High Court seeking bail.

In his petition, Mr. Halappa has denied charges levelled against him saying that they are all fabricated. The CID filed an affidavit containing the statements of the homemaker, her husband and their son. The CID said it is still investigating the case.

The CID stated that they had obtained a CD relating to the molestation. Justice Subash B. Adi asked the CID to place the CD before the court and adjourned further hearing of the case to Wednesday.

Judicial Magistrate First Class III Srinivas Gowda on Monday extended judicial custody of Mr. Halappa till June 8. Mr. Halappa who was supposed to appear before the court on Monday, did not turn up. According to legal sources, the reason given for the former Minister not appearing in court was owing to poor health. The sources said that the jail authorities had sent a letter to the court giving this reason for Mr. Halappa not coming to court.
