The Gummagol Gram Panchayat of Navalgund taluk has been selected for this year’s Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar instituted by the Union Ministry of Panchayat Raj.

The gram panchayat president Mahadevi Vali and Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) Jagadish Hadapad stated in a release that the award was being given for proper implementation of different government schemes and ensuring good governance through people’s participation. The fact that the gram panchayat conducts gram sabhas and ward sabhas regularly has been recognised by the Centre.

The award constitutes a purse of Rs. 10 lakh and a citation.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will give away the award at the ‘Panchayat Raj Diwas’ programme in New Delhi on April 24, the release said.
