The Congress has suffered a jolt in the district with Naaser Hussain Ustad, president of the District Youth Congress Committee, resigning from the party.

Mr. Ustad, son of Congress leader and minority cell president Sadat Hussain Ustad, told presspersons here on Thursday that he would join the Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) of B.S. Yeddyurappa.

Levelling charges against the district Congress leaders, he said the party was filled with “self-centred leaders”.

Mr. Ustad, a claimant for the party ticket from Gulbarga North Assembly constituency, now represented by the former Minister and Congress leader Qamarul Islam, accused the party of keeping him in the dark about the visit of the election observer to the city on November 27.

He said the party leaders had not informed him about the scheduled meeting with the election observer.

Mr. Ustad is likely to contest from Gulbarga North Assembly constituency in the Assembly elections.
