Police have booked five persons for chasing a truck carrying cattle to Kerala illegally and assaulting the driver and four others in the truck near Kudupu temple on Wednesday.

They have also booked the five in the truck under the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act. Mangalore Rural police said as many as 20 head of cattle were being transported to Kerala. With a mob giving him a chase, the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn. The driver and four others were dragged out of the vehicle and assaulted leaving them badly injured. They were taken to Wenlock Hospital.

Theft attempt

A robber threw chilli powder and attacked a woman with a knife after an unsuccessful robbery attempt in Kulaigudde on Wednesday. Surathkal police said the robber knocked at the door of the 24-year-old homemaker, a native of Odisha, and when she opened the door, the robber tried to snatch her necklace. Hearing the woman’s scream, neighbours came to her rescue, upon which the robber attacked her and fled.

Ganja raid

In a police raid on Wednesday, Rukmayya, a resident of Sullia, was arrested for allegedly possessing 62 grams of marijuana. According to the police, the marijuana is worth Rs. 1,000.
