Bangalore: Inaugurating a participative programme with Shiv Khera, management consultant, here on Thursday, M.N. Venkatachalaiah, former Chief Justice of India, quoted Leo Tolstoy and said that to be a great leader, one should have impersonal love for mankind.

Mr. Venkatachalaiah questioned the notion that a "good manager is a harsh manager".

He said relentless pursuit of wealth had become the order of the day. The international economic order was unjust and there was inequality the world over, he added.

In his address, Ramachandra Guruji said Spiritual Solutions, the organiser of the programme, was a non-governmental organisation. It participated in programmes on health and ancient sciences. Spiritual Solutions had conducted workshops all over the world. Thursday's programme was organised to mobilise funds for the construction of a meditation hall in Bangalore.

Mr. Shiv Khera said Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill were not just good leaders but "leaders with an enormous amount of goodness in them".
