BELLARY: Anthony Mendonca, Chief Executive Officer of Bellary Zilla Panchayat, has placed B.M. Nagaiah, secretary of Sonna Gram Panchayat, under suspension on the charge of misappropriation of government funds.

In an order issued here, Mr. Mendonca has said that Mr. Nagaiah had allegedly transferred Rs. 1.79 lakh from the joint account (held by him and the gram panchayat president) to his personal account.

After a preliminary inquiry, Mr. Mendonca has held that the act of Mr. Nagaiah amounted to misappropriation of government funds.

Mr. Nagaiah has been placed under suspension, pending departmental inquiry, with immediate effect.

Teachers suspended

The Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) has initiated disciplinary action against three teachers of a government higher primary school and placed them under suspension. In an order, the DDPI said that Mallikarjun Gosari and Padmavati, had been suspended on the charges of not maintaining discipline and dereliction of duty. Another teacher, D. Rohini, was suspended on the charge of indiscipline, the order said.

Residents of a village had lodged a complaint against the three teachers and locked the school to register their protest, recently, the DDPI has said.
