The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday took the government to task in the Legislative Assembly for caning protesting farmers in Raichur on Monday, a few days after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared that the government would not resort to lathi-charge and booking cases against protesting farmers.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, BJP leader Jagadish Shettar alleged that even a pregnant woman had not been spared by the police.

He urged the government to order an inquiry into the matter. Home Minister K.J. George said he would give a reply to the House after getting details.
