Manager of SC and ST Development Corporation accused of embezzlement

DAVANGERE: The Davangere Zilla Panchayat has decided to urge Governor Rameshwar Thakur to suspend the Manager of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation, Goankar. He was accused of misappropriating funds from the corporation and selectively transferring staff.

At the general body meeting of the zilla panchayat held here on Monday, members Hodigere Ramesh, Narendra and Sarojamma complained to president Ramappa that the official had misappropriated funds and collected commission from poor beneficiaries.

After a detailed discussion on the subject, the zilla panchayat unanimously decided to write to the Governor urging him to suspend the official.

Members cutting across party lines complained of drinking water problems in many villages including Santhebennur, Basavapatna, Belandur falling under their respective jurisdictions, and said that the people were put to tremendous hardship as a result.

Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat Nijalingappa claimed that there was no dearth of funds in the panchayat for undertaking drinking water schemes, and added that he had instructed officials to provide water through tankers if necessary.

He said he would reiterate his instructions to the officials, asking them to provide water to all villages during summer.

Manjappa, vice-president of the zilla panchayat, said that a former MLA of Honnali had complained to the Lokayukta stating that funds had been misappropriated by different departments while implementing various projects. Officials of various departments were reluctant to implement schemes, as large sums of money had already been used up without responsibility.

Mr. Ramappa directed officials to implement the projects in a qualitative manner and promised that the zilla panchayat would support them in case of any problems.
