Function held at Azad Maidan to mark Goa Revolution Day
Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar paid rich tributes to freedom fighters on Goa Revolution Day at a function held at Azad Maidan on Tuesday.
The Governor appealed to Goans to honour their hard-earned freedom and build a stable economy to improve the quality of life in Goa. Mr. Wanchoo paid rich tributes to the late Ram Manohar Lohia, who called upon the people of Goa to join the freedom movement on this day in 1946.
Mr. Parrikar said that the grievances of freedom fighters would be taken care of and that their pensions would be increased taking inflation into account. He said that public servants should give priority to redressing the grievances of the public. Assembly speaker Rajendra Arlekar and several freedom fighters were present. Goa Swatantra Sainik Sangh president Chandrakant Kenkre and Shyam Sunder Nagvekar of the Goa, Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, the Governor, the Chief Minister and other dignitaries paid floral tributes at the Martyrs’ Memorial.
