Karwar: R.V. Deshpande, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, on Wednesday said that the State Government would fall after the elections to the Legislative Council. He said the countdown has begun.

Addressing presspersons at Haliyal town, Mr. Deshpande said that the Congress would not try to destabilise the Government. The Government would come down on its own, he said. He said that it was proved that the Congress is the only party that can provide a stable and development-oriented government in the State. Even the voters have realised it, he added.

Mr. Deshpande said that though the BJP Government had the support of 122 MLAs, Chief Minister B.S. Yedyurappa was always under a fear psychosis that his Government would lose majority. He said that earlier the BJP had “Yeddi and Reddy groups”. Now, a third group has emerged to do politics from resorts, he added.

Mr. Deshpande exuded the confidence that Congress candidate S.L. Ghotnekar would win the Council elections.

MLA’s stand

Meanwhile, Suneel Hegde, Janata Dal(S) MLA from Haliyal, said that his party would not support the Congress candidate in the district and the elected representatives of Janata Dal(S) in the taluk would support D. Anil Kumar, an independent candidate, in Council elections.
