‘First frame rules to ensure benefits to people of the region’

Members of various organisations and students under the banner of the Bellary Zilla Hitarakshana Horata Samiti staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday urging the State government to stop the process of recruitment.

They wanted rules to be framed to ensure that the benefits of special status for the Hyderabad Karnataka region went to people of the region.

The demonstrators burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, alleging that he had failed to freeze all recruitments in government departments and semi-government organisations as promised by him.

They submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.

In the event of any urgency, a few essential vacant posts could be filled on temporary or contract basis till Article 371 (J) was given effect to, they said in the memorandum.

They demanded that a broad-based committee be constituted, comprising officials and representatives from the six districts in the Hyderabad Karnataka region.

The samiti has threatened to intensify the protest if steps were not taken to concede the demands at the earliest.

Conveners of the samiti S. Pannaraj and T.G. Vittal, and leaders Kappagal Chandrashekar Achar and Siddamal Manju participated in the dharna.
