‘I am confident it will complete its term’
B.S. Anand Singh, Minister for Tourism, has said that the BJP government in Karnataka is stable and will complete its full term.
Answering questions from presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Singh said, “For more than a year and a half we have been hearing about the government’s fall. But, so far nothing has happened and I am confident that the government will complete its full term.”
When his attention was drawn to a proposal by the party to initiate action against 14 legislators for participating in the convention of the Karnataka Janata Paksha headed by the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, Mr. Singh said that stern action should be initiated against those involved in anti-party activities.
When he was asked why the party was hesitating to initiate action against the Reddy brothers of Bellary and their followers who were openly supporting the BSR Congress founded by B. Sriramulu, Mr. Singh said that the BJP was known for discipline and that stern action should be initiated against them also. However, the reason for not taking action so far should be explained by senior leaders of the party, he said.
Mr. Singh, who is also in charge of the district, said that the Hampi Utsav would be held in Hampi from January 18 to 20. “We want to organise the cultural festival in a simple manner this year. A meeting of officials of various departments concerned, both at the State and the district level, will be held in Bangalore on December 17 to draw up a plan of action for organising the utsav.”
“The government will be providing Rs. 1 crore that has been set aside in the budget. The Tourism Department will contribute another Rs. 1 crore for the purpose. Govind Karjol, Minister for Kannada and Culture, has promised to meet Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and seek additional grants,” he said.
Mr. Singh said that Tara, who is chairperson of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, would be involved in the selection of artistes for the utsav.
