Udupi: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President R.V. Deshpande on Wednesday said the State Government had failed to protect the interests of the areca growers. The growers were undergoing severe hardships in the coastal districts because of the crash in areca prices, he said.

He also said the Union Government had sent a team to study the problems of the growers. They were also studying the problems of coffee growers in the State.

Mr. Deshpande said that though the Union Government had released adequate funds for flood relief, the State Government had failed to utilise the money properly, and had even failed release any of the money, he said.

He also claimed that the finance situation of the State was in bad shape because the Government had failed in resource in resource mobilisation.

MLC Pratapchandra Shetty, Udupi District Congress Committee president M.A. Gafoor, Congress leaders Vasanth Salian, Manjunath Bhandary, Raju Poojary, Shyamala Bhandary, Janardhan Tonse and others were present.
