DHARWAD: Members of the All Karnataka State Government Employees’ Federation staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Thursday to press for their demands.

They were protesting against retrenchment of jobs, abolition of departments, and making appointments on contract basis. Their other main demand was early implementation of the recommendations of the second report of the Fifth Pay Commission. The protesters led by federation district unit president Ishwar Sanikoppa and other office bearers A.R. Mallapur, Gurumurthy Yaragambalimath, H.V. Channagoudar and others criticised the recent moves by the State Government, which were against the interests of the employees.

They said the State Government had introduced the “Contributory Pension Scheme” for employees appointed after April 1, 2006, which was nothing but a move to bring all the other employees under the scheme.
