TUMKUR: Congress MLA for Sira T.B. Jayachandra said here on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party Government had failed to “properly distribute the available stock of fertilizers and seeds among farmers.”

Inaugurating a workshop and an exhibition at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan here, Mr. Jayachandra said: “Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa is trying hard to cover-up his Government’s lapses in proper distribution (of fertilizers and seeds).”

He claimed that the Centre had supplied sufficient quantity of fertilizers to the State.

He described the Chief Minister’s efforts to take a delegation to New Delhi as a “futile exercise.”

“The Chief Minister should have, instead, devoted his time towards streamlining the distribution of fertilizers and seeds properly among farmers.”

‘Enough stock’

“There is enough stock of fertilizers and seeds in the State. Distribution has been taken up both by the cooperative units in villages and private traders. While cooperative societies have been doing justice to farmers, traders are resorting to hoarding,” the former Minister charged.

“The Yeddyurappa Government is hesitating to take action against hoarders, as the traders are believed to have supported the BJP in the recent Assembly elections,” Mr. Jayachandra alleged.
