Sampathkumar Bangadi of SRJV Arts and Commerce College, Shiggaon, recorded a ‘golden double’ on the second day of the 62nd Karnatak University intercollegiate athletics meet here on Thursday. He added a gold in triple jump to Wednesday’s first in long jump.

Sampathkumar jumped 13.08 m, just ahead of Yogesh V. Kumtakar (Government First Grade College, Yellapur,) and Gurupada B. Gowda (Government First Grade College, Kumta,) who both recorded jumps of 13.07 m.

JSS College athletes dominated the proceedings on day two, winning four gold, two silver and two bronze medals. Krishnappa Santi claimed gold in the men’s 10,000-m run, his second after Wednesday’s in the 5,000-m run. His teammate Shivanand Hattikatagi came second.

Ganesh Naik and Praveenkumar won the first two places in 400-m run, while Channabasappa Jalihal, also from the college, won the 1,500-m race.

Chandravva Sanadi of the college won gold in triple jump. Shruti Devashetty of Government I Grade College, Dharwad, claimed her second gold in the 1,500-m run. 

Other gold medal winners were: Costancio (SDM College, Honnavar, hurdles), H.N. Agasanamatti (BES Merchants Arts and Commerce College, Byadgi, high jump), and Ganesh Gowda (government first grade college, Sirsi, javelin); and among women, Alpha Gona (Nehru College, Hubli, 10,000 m), Anita N. (Karnatak Arts, Dharwad, 400 m) and Sushma Bhandari (SDM College, Honnavar, javelin).
