MANGALORE: Divya (19), resident of Padavinangady Padavu village in Mangalore Taluk, was allegedly waylaid by motorcycle borne persons when she was on her way home.

According to a complaint lodged by the victim at Mangalore Rural (Kankanady) police station, the culprits snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 40,000 from her neck and fled the scene.

A case has been registered at Mangalore Rural (Kankanady) police station.

Burglary

Sri Laxmi Venkataramana temple in Puttur was broken into gold ornaments worth Rs. 4.5 lakh stolen, according to a complaint lodged at Puttur Police Station.

A case of burglary has been registered at Puttur Police Station. Police pressed finger prints experts in to action.

Seized

Belthangady Police raided an open place at Kukkavu Malavanthige village in Belthangady taluk and seized 39 liquor bottles worth Rs. 1,200.

Police arrested Ramesh Gowda, resident of Didupe Mitthabagilu village of Belthangady taluk, on charges of selling liquor illegally. A case under Karnataka Excise Act has been registered at Belthangady Police Station. Investigation is on.

Suicides

Umesh alias Mahesh (25), resident of Pachanady village in Mangalore taluk, reportedly committed suicide by hanging in his house.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at Mangalore Rural (Kankanady) Police Station. Reason for the victim taking the extreme step is not known. Baby (36), resident of Chende Mane Balthila village in Bantwal taluk reportedly committed suicide by hanging in her house.

Reason for committing suicide is not known, the police said. Bantwal town police have registered a case.
