A live crop demonstration of KRH-4, a hybrid variety of paddy cultivated by the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), was held at Matada Doddi village in Maddur taluk on Friday.

H. Shivanna, Director of UAS, inaugurated the programme and requested farmers to cultivate hybrid paddy varieties as they demanded less water.

K.T. Pandurange Gowda, Associate Director of Zonal Agricultural Research Station V.C. Farm, told The Hindu that KRH-4 had evoked curiosity among researchers in different parts of the country. Farmers should cultivate such varieties, he added.
