BANGALORE: Here's one that catches your eye. Today is World Glaucoma Day, an event to mark the need to create awareness and channelise efforts to fight this rapidly growing disease.
A disease of the eye, glaucoma silently damages the optic nerve connecting the eye to the brain. It is known to be the second leading cause of preventable blindness and the leading cause of irreversible blindness in India.
Eye care centres and hospitals are trying to create awareness among people. At both the Rajajinagar and Hosur Road centres of the Narayana Netralaya, free awareness drives are being held today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Free glaucoma screening will also be conducted at the Hosur Road hospital.
