Theatre personalities staged a dharna outside the Rangayana here on Saturday protesting against the alleged interference of the government in the affairs of the State’s premier theatre repertory which is celebrating its silver jubilee.

The artistes, who have come from various places to participate in the Bahuroopi National Theatre Festival which began at Rangayana on January 8, expressed their displeasure for clipping the powers of the Rangayana director.

They demanded that the director and the institution be allowed to function independently.

The protest was led by the former Rangayana director Prasanna.

The government has come under criticism from the theatre fraternity here ever since the powers of the director had been taken back.
