Bangalore: Over 200 employees of Konega International garment factory continued their fast for the second day in front of the Labour Commissioner’s office demanding payment of four months’ salary and other service benefits.

The employees, mostly women, have been agitating for the past one month and have asked the Government to pressure the factory management to pay its contribution towards the Employees’ State Insurance and the Provident Fund.

On Tuesday, the employees started the indefinite fast in front of the office of the Labour Commissioner.

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions Bangalore unit President Gopala Gowda and CITU vice-president Meenakshi Sundaram have joined the employees in indefinite fast. A delegation will meet Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday. The employees alleged that the management on Monday paid two months’ salary to some of their colleagues in return for signing on blank papers.
