MANGALORE: The city roads and churches on them sparkled with decorations on the occasion of Christmas on Friday.

Shops in the city sported Christmas decorations such as mistletoes, stars, holy trees to mark the most important day in the Christian calendar.

The release of Amir Khan starrer “3 idiots”, which was timed to coincide with the Christmas celebrations, added excitement to the festival as cinema theatres screening the film ran full houses.

For the devout, the festivities started a day earlier as thousands of Christians thronged the churches across the district for the special midnight mass on Christmas Eve.

Partying that began after the mass went on till late hours of the night, even as restaurants and bars kept their shutters open for a few extra hours.
