Bright-eyed students from 15 junior colleges deliberated on global issues at the Christ Junior College Model United Nations 2012 that was held here on Thursday.

Organised by Christ University in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, the event saw students formulating effective strategies and recommendations on the lines of the UN’s agendas through various teams.

The three-day event was inaugurated by Hans Loeffler, Deputy Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany. “I feel privileged to be a part this event which is a step towards the growing strong alliance between Germany and India. This event helps students participate in this international format of simulation mode of UN and understand its workings and propagate the message of world peace. It is always possible to convert an enemy into a friend,” he said.

Pascal Alan Nazareth, Ambassador (Retired), Founder and Managing trustee of Sarvodaya International Trust, who has represented India at the UN Council, shared his views about the event and also read out the preamble and the objective of the UN to the audience. “It is important that the young students of India understand the functioning of United Nations, as India is one of the key participants of the world political scenario.”
