TUMKUR: K.R. Basavaraju, president of Tiptur taluk Neeravari Horata Samiti and B. Yogananda, president of Raita Sangha Tiptur taluk unit, here on Monday, urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to allocate Rs. 49.5 crore to the Honnavalli lift irrigation project in the taluk. In their joint letter to the Governor, Mr. Basavaraju and Mr. Yogananda have stated that the project was proposed in 2001.

Though the Government accorded administrative approval on May 17, 2005, funds had not been paid. The project would provide drinking water to more than one lakh people of 30 villages in Tiptur and Arsikere taluks, and their cattle. — Staff Correspondent
