M. Chidanandamurthy, writer, has said that the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada, Mysore, will prepare a plan to develop and promote the Kannada language, as it had been accorded classical status by the Union Government.

Inaugurating the district-level poets' meet, organised by the Chitradurga Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat here on Monday, Mr. Chidanandamurthy, who is member of the expert committee involved in drawing up the plan, said that the Centre had allocated funds for the purpose.

Stating that the Union Government had now framed guidelines for utilising the funds, he said that Kannada language would gain more popularity and prominence since several projects would be taken up.
