The fourth annual convocation of JSS University, a deemed university, will be held on October 12 at Sri Rajendra Auditorium in JSS Medical College here at 11 a.m.
Thirumalachari Ramasami, Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address.
Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur Math, who is the Chancellor of the university, and JSS Mahavidyapeeta executive secretary B.N. Betkerur will be present.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, JSS University Vice-Chancellor B. Suresh said 490 graduates and post-graduates will receive degrees and diplomas. Nineteen candidates will receive doctor of philosophy, he added.
The break-up of number of candidates receiving degrees and diplomas is: 56 PG degrees in Faculty of Medicine (MD/MS); 25 PG diploma in Faculty of Medicine; 25 PG degrees in Faculty of Dentistry (MDS); four PG diploma in Faculty of Dentistry; 12 Bachelor of Dental Surgery; 222 PG degree in Faculty of Pharmacy (M.Pharm); 52 PG diploma in Faculty of Pharmacy; 16 Doctor of Pharmacy degree in Faculty of Pharmacy; 51 Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in Faculty of Pharmacy; one Master of Science (medical sciences) in Faculty of Biomedical Sciences; three Bachelor of Science (allied health sciences) in Faculty of Biomedical Sciences (B Sc); four Master of Science (environmental sciences) in Faculty of Natural Sciences (M Sc).
Dr. Suresh said the university is offering doctoral research leading to Ph.D and has presently enrolled 189 students who have registered for the research.
JSS Medical College principal Basavanagowdappa said the college has applied for starting four more super-specialty courses and also two new PG specialties in emergency medicine and hospital administration.
He said the JSS College had been granted approval for enhancing the intake for admission to MBBS programme from 150 to 200 students from the academic year 2013-14.
