In Jagalur on Wednesday night, four cases of burglary and two cases of robbery have been reported. According to Superintendent of Police D. Prakash, a four-member gang had broken open the door of a house of Ekanath, teacher, and took away jewellery. They later tried in vain to break open the neighbouring house. Later, the gang gained entry into Eshwari Vishwa Vidyalaya and threatened a woman, collected the keys of the almerah, took away Rs. 5,000 in cash. Subsequently, they went to the house of Umapathy, a police constable, which was locked from outside, as his wife was sick. The gang opened the lock threatened Mr. Umapathy’s wife and took away gold jewellery, including the ‘mangalasutra’.
Earlier, the gang had allegedly burgled two bars. However, their action had been recorded in a CCTV camera, installed in one of the bars. Sniffer dog and finger print experts were pressed into service.
According to Mr. Prakash, the police had definite clues about culprits. Cases have been registered. — Staff Correspondent
