Four persons, three from Tamil Nadu and one from Andhra Pradesh, were arrested on Monday by the police on the charge of trafficking in human beings at Pavagada. The police gave the name of the accused as R. Govindaraju (40) from Tirupur district, V. Subramanyam (55) from Coimbatore district, K. Kamaraju (40) from Karur district in Tamil Nadu and Narasimha (30) from Haresamudra in Anantpur district in Andhra Pradesh.

Anitha Kannaiah, executive director of Oasis, a non-governmental organisation from Bangalore, had complained to the police about trafficking in human beings. Based on this, the police stopped a KSRTC bus and a four-wheeler on Pavagada-Hindupur Road on Monday night.

They rescued 42 girls, of whom 14 were minors, and 16 boys and 21 adults from the two vehicles.

The police said that they were lured with the promise of jobs and money and were being taken by the four accused to Tamil Nadu.

A case was registered at the Pavagada police station.
