HUBLI: Two seventh standard students who had reportedly gone for a swim drowned in the Tarihal tank near Hubli on Wednesday.

The names of the victims were given as Obalappa and Parashuram Walmiki, both aged 14. They were inmates of government hostel situated at Tarihal. According to the police, four students had gone for a swim in the tank as they had holidays. While two were sitting on the tank bund, Obalappa and Parashuram jumped into the tank.

After the police were alerted, they rushed to the spot and the bodies of the dead boys were recovered.

In another incident, two persons who had gone for a swim after the “Ranga Panchami” celebrations in Hubli on Tuesday were drowned in Unakal tank. The police recovered the bodies of the victims on Wednesday. Name of one of the victims was given as Yaman Dhongdi.
