Four persons were killed when a lorry collided with a private bus from rear side at Sharavati circle in Honnavar on Friday morning. The conductor of the bus was among the four killed on the spot.

The names of the victims were given as conductor Akhila (25) from Mangalore and Sayyad Nurulla Sayyad Inayatulla (45) of Udupi, and Amjad Khan Hasan Khan (38) and Juber Khan Hasan Khan, both residents of Samshi, Honnavar.

The bus was going from Mumbai to Mangalore. It had stopped at Sharavathi Circle at 5.30 a.m. where some passengers were supposed to alight. The lorry, which was also going to Mangalore from Maharashtra, hit the bus from behind.

According to sources, Amjad Hasan Khan was working in Dubai and had returned to Samshi.

His brother Jiber had gone to Mumbai to receive him. Both of them, along with the conductor, alighted from the bus and had gone to the rear to collect their luggage.

Another passenger Nurulla too wanted to check his luggage when the accident occurred.

Honnavar police have registered a case.
