BANGALORE: December 2009 was a tragic month for the Kannada film industry which lost four well-known personalities, the latest being actor Vishnuvardhan.

Chandulal Jain (74), veteran producer, passed away on December 17.

He had produced 35 Kannada films, including “Thayi Devaru” (starring the late thespian Rajkumar), “Boothaiahna Maga Ayyu”, “Thabbaliyu Ninadhe Magane”, “Hemavathi”, “Praya Praya Praya”, “Bethale Seve”, “Idhu Sadhya” (in 48 hours), “Bhaktha Siriyala”, “Veerappan” and “Gangavva Gangamayi”.

The same day, another noted name of yesteryear, Circus Boranna (74), a stuntman who was the villain in films such as “Gajendra”, “Sharavegadha Saradara”, “Masanadha Hoovu” and “Ramachari”, died.

Popular Kannada sugama sangeetha singer C. Ashwath, who made his debut in the film industry with “Kakanakote”, passed away on Tuesday.

He, along with the late L. Vaidyanathan, had scored the music for many films.

The death of Vishnuvardhan, a veteran of 200 movies, came a day later.
