Gulbarga: The Gulbarga Police on Friday nabbed a four-member inter-State dacoit gang near Shivpur village in Shahapur taluk in Gulbarga district. The gang was allegedly involved in a triple murder on February 14 at Gondadgi village in Yadgir taluk under the Saidapur Police Station limits.

Superintendent of Police Padmanayana produced the four dacoits in front of presspersons here on Friday. The arrested have been identified as Basavaraj (38), Shankar (22), Yenkataiah (48) and Ramesh (18). Mr. Padmanayana said that the arrested had confessed to have murdered three persons namely Basanagowda, Shivareddy and Srinivas and had also confessed that they had beaten up Suryakantamma, an old person, on the night of February 14 in a farm house in Gondadgi village. The police have seized murder weapons and a cash of Rs. 13,000 and ear studs from the arrested.

The dacoit gang had allegedly entered the farm house in the agriculture lands owned by Basavarajappa Gowda and bludgeoned to death Basanagowda who was sleeping on a cot outside the farm house and farm labourers Shivareddy and Srinivas who were inside the farm house.

Suryakantamma who resisted the attempts of the dacoits was beaten up badly.

Mr. Padmanayana said that the dacoits had burnt the bodies of Shivareddy and Srinivas before leaving the spot.He said a team of senior police officers headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police M.D. Hulimani was constituted to nab the dacoit gang. Suryakantamma, the eye witness to the entire incident, provided necessary clues about the dacoits and identified the photographs of the accused, who are history sheeters in the neighbouring Deodurga police station in Raichur district.
