The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officers on Sunday arrested four persons for allegedly smuggling in gold at the Mangalore International Airport.

The DRI officers said the arrested were Ummer Farooq, Sayyed Pakayaramadam, Abdul Nissar and K. Mohammed Kunhi. The DRI officers said Ummer Farooq and Sayeed, residents of Kasaragod, arrived by a flight from Dubai on Sunday. Abdul Nissar and K. Mohammed Kunhi, also from Kasaragod, had come to the Airport to receive Ummer and Sayeed.

The officers, on a tip off, stopped the four as they were about to leave the airport in a car. Ummer and Sayyed were found possessing two 1 kg gold bars, $8,900 in cash and Rs. 1.5 lakh cash in their bags. All the four have been booked for violation of Section 135 of the Customs Act.
