Demand payment of compensation

HUBLI: Former employees of Mahadev Textiles Mill and their family members took out a protest march in Hubli on Wednesday to press for early disbursement of additional compensation.

The march began from Girani Chawl and passed through thoroughfares of the city. The protesters raised slogans against the apathy of the State Government in this regard.

Demand

The protesters urged the Government to take steps to disburse the compensation.

They later submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to the Hubli tahsildar.

Mahadev Textiles Mill (MTM) was closed down in 1998 owing to financial crisis. As many as 525 employees lost their livelihood. Although compensation was given to the former employees, they have been complaining that it was not adequate. When contacted, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar said that steps were being taken by the Government in this regard.

Report

The Minister said he had asked the Commissioner of Department of Textiles to file a report in this regard. Based on the report, the Government would approach the High Court asking for directions, either through the liquidator of MTM or government pleaders, Mr. Shettar said.
