An assistant manager with Infosys committed suicide in her apartment at Geddalahalli near Hennur here on Monday morning.

Smitha Rao (32), who was earlier a reporter with three dailies in the city, hanged herself to death around 10 a.m. after calling her husband Rohit, who was at work, to tell him she was troubled.

“She said goodbye and that that was her last call,” according to Hennur Police Station Inspector G. Prabhakar.

Rohit rushed back home from his workplace — a software company — and found the door locked. He broke the grill at the back of the house and found Smitha hanging.

She was rushed to a private hospital in Hebbal where she was declared brought dead.

Harassment case

While the police initially filed a case of unnatural death, later in the day, Smitha's mother filed a complaint with the Hennur police alleging that Rohit had harassed her daughter.

He was then taken into custody, the police said.

The couple had been married for more than four years.
