The formal inauguration of Karnataka Folklore University — the world's first such varsity — has been tentatively scheduled for December 21.
The inauguration is only a formality as the university, which is located at Gotagodi of Shiggaon taluk in Haveri district, has already commenced its work.
Disclosing this during the launching of the website www.janapadauni.in in Bangalore on Monday, Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya said Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda would inaugurate the university.
A logo has also been launched with a theme “Let us sow gold all over the farmland.”
Vice-Chancellor Ambalike Hiriyanna said: “In a broad sense, if we consider the entire world as a farmland, this theme hints that the seed of folk wisdom should be sown all over. The mission of the university is also to spread the folk wisdom of our land to other languages, States as well as countries and also to expose ourselves to the folklore of the world.”
University Registrar C. A. Somashekharappa said folklore had been neglected and looked down upon for long by the elite and powerful. It was only now that folk life, folk wisdom and folk knowledge were attracting the attention of the world.
