HASSAN: Principal Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, I.M. Vittalamurthy has underscored the importance of the teachings of the Buddha, Basaveshwara, Gandhiji and Ambedkar, and said people should follow them to achieve their goals in life.

He was speaking after inaugurating the silver jubilee celebrations of Yamasandhi Dyave Gowda Devamma Government First Grade Degree College at Belur on Wednesday.

Mr. Vittalamurthy said that students in rural areas, who had grown up in a good, natural environment should not feel that they were inferior to those from towns and cities. They should develop self-confidence, he said.

He advised students to read Vichara Kranthige Ahvana written by Kuvempu to help them develop scientific thinking. He suggested that this book be kept in all college libraries.

Writer Doddarange Gowda released the souvenir, “Smruthi Saurabha”,. MLA H.K. Kumaraswamy was the chief guest. Belur MLA Y.N. Rudresh Gowda presided. Commissioner for Collegiate Education Nagalambika Devi, zilla parishat president Kamakshi Raju, and principal of the college I.M. Mohan were present.
