Follow polling rules strictly, returning officers told

Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri has urged returning officers to strictly adhere to the rules laid down by the Election Commission during the urban local body elections scheduled for March 7.

Speaking at a training programme organised for returning officers and assistant returning officers here on Friday, Mr. Ikkeri said that electronic voting machines would be used in the urban local body elections for the first time. “Officers should have clear and firsthand information about their duties and responsibilities. In case of any doubt, they should get them clarified with higher authorities,” he said.

Cooperation

Chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat and in charge of urban local body elections K.M. Narayanaswamy sought the cooperation of the officials for smooth conduct of elections in the district. “Elections will be definitely smooth if all the officers follow the guidelines properly,” he said.

Assistant Commissioner M.N. Nagaraj was present.
