Republic Day celebrated in a grand manner in Dharwad

Republic Day was celebrated in a grand manner at the R.N. Shetty District Stadium here on Thursday.

Along with various cultural and entertainment programmes, folk dances by troupes from villages added special flavour to the event.

While children from various schools presented attractive drills, physical exercises and colourful dances, folk troupes from Sulla and Sutagatti villages enthralled the audience with their “Jaggalagi Mela” and “Mullu Hejje Kunita”.

“Mullu Hejje Kunita” of north Karnataka drew applause from the audience as youths from Sulla village skilfully danced over the thorns.

Similarly, “Jaggalagi Mela”, which is usually performed by men, was presented by women clad in the traditional attire.

Home Guards, District Police, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, Scouts and Guides and schoolchildren participated in the parade.

A person dressed as Mahatma Gandhi drew the attention of all.

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Jagadish Shettar distributed prizes.
