Bangalore: On the occasion of World Communicators' Day, the Bangalore Chapter of the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) hosted Hasiru, an event focussed on making the city cleaner and greener here on Tuesday.

PRCI Chairman M.B. Jayaram, in his introductory speech, said World Communicators' Day was celebrated annually by the Public Relations Council of India between May 17 and 20.

Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University N. Prabhudev and president of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) J. Castra spoke on Bangalore's rising population, its public transport system and the need for speedy implementation of civic projects.

Dr. Prabhudev spoke on the Bangalore University's intitiative “Laksha Vruksha E Varsha”. He explained that the varsity authorities had planed 30,000 trees saplings in the university campus which had resulted in a six feet rise of the groundwater levels. Mr. Castra added: “Growth in Bangalore has been haphazard. Our waste management system is unscientific”. Both the speakers justified their viewpoints with startling statistics.

Other dignitaries who were present included Chairman of PRCI Bangalore Chapter Anil Nayak and Secretary of the PRCI Bangalore Chapter Saleela Kappan.
