Bhushan Patwardhan, scientist and director of Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, University of Pune, has called upon universities to focus on achieving academic excellence.
While delivering the Foundation Day Oration at the KLE University’s foundation day celebrations here on Saturday, Mr. Patwardhan said in the Top 100 University Rankings-2013 in Asia, most Indian universities had not found a place. The only solace was the three Indian Institute of Technology’s (IIT Kharagpur-30th, IIT Mumbai-33rd and IIT Roorkee 56th) that were among the top 100 universities. He said universities could achieve academic excellence only through the performance of the students and faculty. He wished that the Indian universities would work harder to see themselves among the best universities in the world. The KLEU felicitated the former Mayor Vijay Pandurang More in recognition of his social services in the city. Student achievers in academics and sports were also felicitated.
The occasion coincided with the two-day ‘JNMC Scientific Society Annual CME’ on the theme ‘Empowering the family physician’, which was organised by J.N. Medical College as part of its ongoing golden jubilee celebrations. Lectures on the practices in medicine, passing newer techniques, discussions, workshop on basic life support, interaction and sharing of expertise and experiences with participants will be part of the celebrations.
Vinod Bhat, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Manipal University and alumni of JNMC, inaugurated the CME and stressed the need to revamp medical education in the country.
