Work on a township for 181 families from Bandolli village is on at a slow pace

The authorities concerned are yet to provide houses to people of several villages in Surpur taluk of Yadgir district who are facing a flood threat.

Houses are not ready for the people of Dalit Colony in Havinal village on the banks of the Hirehalla stream, where its water-level is rising dangerously.

The situation at Bandolli and Thinthani villages is no different.

In the township for 181 families from Bandolli village, construction work is slow. The foundation has not been laid for many houses.

“It will take at least six months to complete the work on the township,” Lakshman of Bandolli village said.

For the people of Bandolli and Thinthani, who lost their houses in the floods last year, compensation has not been paid.

They are now living in dilapidated structures and thatched huts.

They are also likely to be affected this time. In many villages, including Havinal, the affected families have not spent the compensation money paid to them last year on repairing their houses. “Whatever compensation paid by the Government has not been used for the purpose it was given,” Shantavva of Havinal said. Havinal, which faces a serious threat of floods, is surrounded by Hirehalla, Thegadihalla and Sugandahalla streams. Floods in these streams may spell doom to the people of the village like last year.
