Only 6,615 of the 26,409 houses planned are ready
Fifteen months have elapsed after the worst ever floods in the Hyderabad Karnataka region. However, relocation of the affected families, as promised by the State Government, is yet to happen.
According to official sources, only 6,615 of the 26,409 houses planned in Gulbarga, Bellary, Yadgr, Raichur, Koppal and Bidar districts are ready for occupation.
The construction of 8,471 houses was yet to begin in some districtsbecause of problems related to availability of land. Of the 18,938 houses being constructed in different districts, 6,762 houses were still at the foundation level, 2,833 at the lintel stage and 2,689 at the roof stage.
Of the 137 villages where the land was available for relocation, only 57 villages have all infrastructure facilities. The construction of 2,646 houses is in various stages of completion in Gulbarga district. Of them, 1,282 houses are complete in all respects and 197 are at the roof level, 385 at the lintel level and 743 at the foundation level.
In Yadgir, construction work has begun on 785 of the 910 houses proposed. Of them, 34 are complete in all respects and the rest are in different stages of completion.
In Raichur, although work has begun on 8,176 of the 13,121 houses planned, only 2,800 house are ready. In Bellary district, 1,508 of the 6,558 houses proposed are ready. In Koppal district, of the 2,905 houses proposed, only 991 houses are ready and others are in different stages of completion. Of the 137 villages affected in the region, 67 have to be entirely relocated and the rest partially.
