MANGALORE: Five people, including two children, died and 15 injured when a retaining wall in a mosque at Turkalike village of Belthangady taluk, Dakshina Kannada, collapsed on Thursday evening, according to the police.

A large number of people had assembled at the mosque for the annual Uroos celebrations, when the wall collapsed at about 7 p.m.

The police said the names of the deceased were: Mohammed Rafiq (30) of Sangabettu in Belthangady taluk, Ahmed Beary (65) of Puthila in Belthangady taluk, Puttu Monu (45) of Nehru Nagar in Puttur, Mohammed Muzammil (9) and Mohammed Sadiq (11) of Uruvalu village in Belthangady taluk. Of them, four died on the spot, and one died on the way to hospital, the police said.
