The Hubli police have arrested five alleged robbers and recovered Rs. 1.83 lakh in cash, two motorcycles and five mobile handsets from them.

The arrested have been identified as Viresh Shivanand Mathad, Babajan Aminsab Mujavar, Vishal Prakash Machare, Nagaraj Ramu Kanneshwar (all from Gangadhar Nagar) and Jamil Abubkar Patel of Shiravar village in Raichur district.

According to Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner K. Ramachandra Rao, the gang snatched away a bag containing cash worth Rs. 2.1 lakh and various documents from Mohammaed Abdul Razack Kasai of Shiravar village when he was in Hubli on October 23.

He said the police nabbed the four accused near Tarihal Interchange on the outskirts of Hubli on Wednesday.

Three of the accused had reportedly admitted their involvement in two cases of chain snatching reported in Hubli a year ago.

The two gold chains worth Rs. 38,000 have been recovered by the police, the Commissioner said.

Investigations on

Mr. Rao said the involvement of the arrested persons in other crimes was being investigated and the Raichur police had also been informed.
