Majali in Karwar taluk will get a fishing jetty soon. The Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fisheries has prepared a plan and design for the jetty project.

A team of Union government officials conducted a survey recently. V. Gangadhar, Joint Director of Fisheries, said on Monday that two breakwaters would be built at Majali.

The 1,140-metre breakwater would be built on the north side and the 600-metre breakwater would be built on the south side of the jetty, he said.

Facilities such as fish auction centre, net weaving and keeping centre, and boat repair centres would be built near the jetty.

Mr. Gangadhar said that a similar jetty would be built at Keni village in Ankola taluk.

The project cost would be shared by the Union and State governments on the ratio of 3:1, Mr. Gangadhar said.

He said that the opinion of local fishermen would be taken while building the jetties.
