The New Mangalore Port Trust in 2011-12 is mv O.S. Samsun from Port Matwara in East Africa called on the NMPT on April 23. This is the first mainline vessel to call the port in the financial 2011-12, according to a release.

The vessel unloaded 327 boxes of raw cashew for distribution among various cashew processing units situated in and around Mangalore and 23 TEUs of teakwood and sailed out on April 24. It loaded seven export containers carrying cashew kernels and jute bags. The advantage of a mainline vessel directly calling the port is the lesser transit time and lower handling costs.

The next mainline vessel is expected by first week of May 2011.
