The Fire and Emergency Services found itself stretched on Thursday when a second blaze broke out, this time in Peenya around 5.30 p.m.
Over 10 fire tenders with about 70 fire personnel rushed to Mandekerappa near the Peenya Industrial Layout to fight the flames at a plastic packaging factory, Sapna Packers.
Though the firemen were called at 5.45 p.m., they reached only at 6.45. It took them over an hour to douse the flames.
A fireman blamed peak hour traffic, the Bommanahalli fire and the Canadian Prime Minister’s visit. “There were 25 to 30 employees at the factory when the building caught fire but they all rushed out the moment they saw the smoke billowing out.”
The materials stored were totally gutted. Preliminary investigation suggests the source to be diesel or chemical leak.
