The Department of Motor Vehicles launched a special drive on October 31 to check public service vehicles, including all-India permit-holding tourist omni buses, contract carriages and other passenger vehicles. The checking comprised verification of vehicle documents, technical condition, etc., in view of passenger safety. As many as 735 vehicles were checked during the drive and 414 cases booked. Also, two vehicles were seized. A fine of Rs. 1,54,915 was collected during the four-day drive. — Special Correspondent
